There will be a publication party on Sunday, April 22, from 3 to 5 PM at Uncommon Ground, 1401 West Devon, in Chicago.
Uncommon Ground is a wonderful restaurant with an organic garden on their roof. The food is excellent! There is also a free parking lot!
There will be a reading by two award winning guest poets: Maureen Tolman Flannery, author of the recently released Tunnel Into Morning and Martha Vertreace, poet in residence at Kennedy King College.
The Alleluia Tree is a wonderful book of poetry by Christine Swanberg, one of the most talented poets in the Midwest today. She is the author of nine books and has had over 300 poems published in various books and journals. Her work has appeared in over sixty literary journals. She currently writes a column for the Rock River Times, a newspaper in her home town of Rockford, Illinois, that reaches 20,000 people each week. She has a long list of poetry awards and has been an editor for various presses and magazines. She has lead a full literary life.
This is a collection of poems that contains her full circle of work. Many of the newer poems return to the simple language and construction of her earliest work. The poems in this volume span more than a third of a century.
Praise for The Alleluia Tree.
The Alleluia Tree sings with clarity and precision, the well-developed song cycle of a poet at the height of her craft…

Whether writing about post-Katrina New Orleans or the winter-starved birds of the title poem, Swanberg puts every detail in place through fresh imagery and elegant language, the reader elevated above the gloom and grit by a spiritual vision further enhanced by a true appreciation of the sensory treasures that surround us.
